Джеймс Л. Гелвин (англ. James L. Gelvin; ^{[Нет даты!]}) — американский историк, специалист по истории Ближнего Востока. С 1995 года преподаёт на историческом факультете Калифорнийского университета в Лос-Анджелесе (UCLA). Автор многочисленных работ по истории современного Ближнего Востока, в которых особое внимание уделяется национализму, а также социальной и культурной истории региона.

Биография

В 1983 году Гелвин получил степень бакалавра искусств в Колумбийском университете. В 1985 году окончил Школу международных и общественных отношений Колумбийского университета со степенью магистра искусств. В 1992 году получил степень доктора философии в Гарвардском университете.

До начала работы в UCLA Гелвин преподавал в Массачусетском технологическом институте (MIT), Бостонском колледже и Гарвардском университете.

В 1999—2000 годах был научным сотрудником Международного научного центра имени Вудро Вильсона и получал стипендию президента Калифорнийского университета в области гуманитарных наук. В 2002—2003 годах занимал должность приглашённого профессора истории имени шейха Заида ибн Султана Аль Нахайяна в Американском университете в Бейруте.

Награды

В 2015 году Ассоциация исследований Ближнего Востока (Middle East Studies Association) удостоила Гелвина премии за преподавание в бакалавриате (Undergraduate Teaching Award). В заявлении отмечалась его «выдающаяся приверженность практике и содержанию преподавания в бакалавриате, проявившаяся в его работе в аудитории, подготовке будущих поколений преподавателей и создании хорошо принятых учебников... Достижения Джеймса Гелвина как преподавателя и созданные им учебные материалы служат примером того уровня преподавания, который призвана отметить эта награда». В 1998 году Гелвин также получил премию за выдающиеся достижения преподавателей (Faculty Excellence Award), вручённую отделением Национального общества почётных студентов старших курсов Mortar Board в UCLA.
